Preparation is key when it comes to data security. When businesses don't have strategies to prevent accidents, it leaves them open to a wide range of negative outcomes, from leaked intellectual property to loss of reputation. With the right solutions in place, organizations can discover and address potentially risky behavior before it leads to problems down the line.

PHIprivacy recently reported that electronic medical records provider Lawrence Melrose Medical Electronic Record of Melrose, Massachusetts experienced a data security incident in which an employee of a medical practice gained unauthorized access to patients' personal information at six different healthcare facilities. While the news source noted that the scope of the incident is unclear at this time, a patient registration form found on one practice's website suggests that Social Security numbers, insurance data, employment information and more could have been compromised.
